The New Jersey Titans took 3 of 4 points from their weekend trip up to the Rose of New England against the Norwich Sea Captains, falling in overtime on Friday night before earning a victory on Saturday.
On Friday, New Jersey jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the first period with goals from Nick Trabb and a pair from Payton Fobes. However, that was all the offense the Titans could muster, and Norwich was able to tie the game after getting on the board in the second, and netting a pair in the third. New Jersey would earn a point for keeping the game tied through 60 minutes of play, but fell in overtime. Jesse Riccio stopped 26 of 30 shots on goal.
Saturday would see a tighter game played by both teams, and the Titans took a 1-0 lead at the 8:15 mark of the first period courtesy of Nick Bianco’s 3rd of the year, assisted by Nick Trabb and Zach Gershner. Lukas Carney provided offense from the blue line in the second period, finding the back of the net with under a minute to go. Egor Sobolev and Zane Mazzola picked up the helpers on Carney’s third of the season. Avery Rovira lost his bid for a shutout when Norwich scored in the final minute of regulation with the goalie pulled, but the Titans would hold on for 2-1 victory.
With the three points in the standings this weekend, the Titans are again in first place in the East Division, although second place Northeast and third place Norwich have five and two games in hand respectively. Up next for New Jersey is a weekend series in New York against the Long Beach Sharks, with games at 5:00pm on Saturday and 2:30pm on Sunday. Both games can we watched live on NAHLtv.
