The first place New Jersey Titans took the road for a Sunday night matchup against the Danbury Jr Hat Tricks, skating away with a 3-2 victory.
The Titans got on the board first with Cam Fanfa’s second of the year, assisted by Jacob Gray and Grant Coykendall. For Gray, it was his first point in five games. New Jersey outshot Danbury 12-6 in the frame, and kept the offensive momentum going in the second period. Despite outshooting the Jr Hat Tricks by a 20 to 7 margin in the second, the teams each scored once in the period. For New Jersey, it was Mavrin’s 2nd of the year at 12:55 that restored the lead for the Titans, with George Hinds and Zach Gershner getting the helpers.
Nick Trabb scored what would prove to be the game winner 2:55 into the third, his 3rd of the year. Zach O’Neil and Mavrin received the assists. The Jr Hat Tricks made it interesting, pulling within one with under 13 minutes to play, but Sebastian Thome stood tall, stopped 21 of 23 sent his way during the game, to record his league leading 7th win of the season.
With the victory, the Titans remain atop the East Division with a record of 9-2-0. However, their toughest test lies ahead next weekend, as New Jersey will face the undefeated Northeast Generals in a battle at the top of the division. Faceoff is scheduled at 7:30pm Friday night, and 7:45pm on Saturday at the Middletown Sports Complex.
