The New Jersey Titans began the 2023-24 season on the road, facing the Danbury Jr. Hat Tricks for their first games of the season. Last year, the Titans missed the playoffs by a single point, but with a revamped roster took home two victories in the Hat City.
The first period of the first game saw the Titans and Hat Tricks trade goals in the first, including a pair of goals from returning player William Fliss. Payton Fobes and George Hinds, last year’s leading scorers, found the back of the net in the second period. Up by two, New Jersey showed an ability to finish a game that they lacked last season, as Matt Kassay and Lukas Carney scored to give the Titans a 6-2 victory to begin the season.
New Jersey took an early lead in the second game, with Cam Fanfa’s first junior hockey league goal. The teams added a pair of goals apiece in the second, with the Titans adding goals from veterans Nick Trabb and Dante Debueriis. Danbury tied the game in the third, and New Jersey found themselves playing overtime for the first time this season. It was William Fliss who was the overtime hero, scoring on a breakaway to send the Titans home with their first two victories of the season.
With the wins, New Jersey currently finds themselves in first place of the East Division. Next, they will welcome the expansion New Hampshire Mountain Kings to the league with a pair of games at Tri-Town Arena in Hooksett, NH, before stopping in Long Beach to complete three games in three days. Games are scheduled for Friday, September 22nd, at 3:50pm, Saturday, September 23rd, at 3:50pm, and Sunday, September 24th, at 2:30pm. All games will be available live on the new NAHLtv streaming service.
